Johan Bruyneel on KGO

Download or Listen

Johan Bruyneel is a prodigy of the bicycle world but not because he was granted or gifted such an honored place but because he took his passion, he inherited genetically from his father, and absorbed the unique world around him. The prodigy part comes in because from the very beginning it was clear he had a niche for remembering details most bike racers could only make notes of in a racing log. It was the key to his success even beyond pushing his body to its limits in many of the worlds most difficult bike races.

When he got together with Lance Armstrong after the promising rider spoke of a comeback from cancer there was a spark that never before existed in Tour de France history.  His brains and Lance's brawn was to cycling what McCartney and Lennon were to rock and roll. Having the opportunity to talk with him was a treat because I had questions, about racing, about our local rider Levi Leipheimer, the behind the scene stories of Lance Armstrong's 7 Tour victories and a personal question about perseverance in the face of tragedy.

The interview is 16 minutes long and this platform at KGOradio.com gives us the opportunity to hear it in its entirety. It is an MP3 but it may take a few minutes to download depending on your computer.

p.s. Johan's fine folks have included this interview on his website. Just wanted to say thanks and if you click Johan's name at the top of this page you can tour his site with more info on Levi, Alberto and Lance.  I give the interview 5 stars but well, uh, er, lets just say I know the guy who did the interview.
