2:00 - 3:00p.m.: Arizona asked an appeals court Thursday to lift a judge's order blocking most of the state's immigration law. Republican Gov. Jan Brewer called U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton's Wednesday decision halting the law ``a bump in the road,'' and the state appealed to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Thursday. Attorney Stephen Montoya, legal representative for two police officers in Arizona who have filed a lawsuit against the Arizona Immigration law, speaks to Gil about the issue of illegal immigration.

3:00 - 4:00p.m.: The discussion on immigration continues this hour when Gil welcomes Karen Tumlin, Managing Attorney with the Natinal Immigration Law Center which is among a coalition of civil rights groups that has filed suit challenging SB 1070.

2:00 - 3:00p.m.: In this hour, Gil focuses on the National ID card debate. Civil liberties advocates decried a Democratic proposal that would require all workers in the United States to carry an ID card with biometric identifiers. The American Civil Liberties Union is against the ID card program. Joining Gil to speak about the debate is Christopher Calabrese, Legislative Counsel, ACLU Washington Office.

3:00 - 4:00p.m.: A federal judge stepped into the fight over Arizona's immigration law at the last minute Wednesday, blocking the heart of the measure and defusing a confrontation between police and thousands of activists that had been building for months. Gil debates the issue with callers.

2:00 - 4:00p.m.: A DUI motorcyclist convicted of murder is killed at San Quentin state prision. Gil speaks with two noted book authors, Dr. Stephen C. Richards, a professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Dr. Jeffrey Ian Ross, a professor at the University of Baltimore. 2:00-3:00p.m.: Gil welcomes former San Jose Police Chief Joseph McNamara who explained why he is in support of Proposition 19, the legalization of marijuana in California. Later in the hour, Gil speaks to Kim Raney, the police chief of Covina and a member of The California Police Chiefs Association, which is opposed to the state's legalization of marijuana which goes before California voters in November.

3:00-4:00p.m.: Vic Ratner, ABC Radio Washington News Correspondent joins Gil to talk about the WikiLeaks release of 91,000 secret U.S. military documents on the Afghanistan war. Gil speaks with callers asking them do you think the United States should continue with the war in Afghanistan and do you think the WikiLeaks should have been published?

3PM: A two year old child was killed by two of the families dog this morning in Concord. They were pit bulls. Gil says people with children should not be allowed to own a pit bull. Do you agree?

2PM: Next week the Arizona immigration law will take effect so Gil talks about the lawsuits that have and will be filed against Arizona. He speaks with Rick Gray, member of the Greater Phoenix Tea Party Patriots, who supports the law and Foster Maer, an attorney for the Latino Justice, who has filed a lawsuit.

3PM: Gil continues with the immigration debate however he asks if it is a racial issue. He speaks with Jim Gilchrist, founder of Minutemen Project, who doesn't think it is and Lisa Navarrete, vice president of National Council of La Raza, who thinks it has absolutely thinks it is an anti-Hispanic issue.

2PM: There was a rally yesterday in Walnut Creek in support of Mehserle and some people who support Oscar grant attended. It was a peaceful rally and Gil talked about the details with Tom Barnidge, columnist for the Contra Costa Times.

2PM: Across the country, people are being prosecuted for videotaping police officers. Gil speaks with Carlos Miller, a blogger who has been arrested twice for videotaping the police, about why he believes it's okay to tape and Rich Roberts, PIO for the International Union of Police Associations, on where the police stand on this issue.

3PM: Obama is pushing to make it easier for school districts to fire ineffective teachers. Gil speaks with Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, who does not support his plan and Sandi Jacobs, vice president of the National Council on Teacher Quality who does support the idea.

3PM: A man who killed a nine year old girl while driving drunk was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison. He had nine previous DUI's and the father of the daughter who dies, is trying to pass Melody's Law, where if people have three DUI's they lose their license. Gil spoke with Aaron Osheroff, father of the Melody who was killed in accident, and Assemblyman Jared Huffman who is spearheading it to Sacramento.

Gil spoke with his spokesperson Aaron McLear about why he the Governor thinks this is a good idea and Democratic Chairman John Burton about why he doesn't like the idea at all.

3PM: The lawyers in the Mehserle trial gave closing arguments this afternoon and the jury is deliberating. Gil spoke with Tashina Manyak, reporter for the California Beat, who has been in the courtroom since the trial began and attorney Michael Cardoza to discuss what they think the verdict will be.

2PM: The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that it is illegal to give peace advice to terrorist. Gil spoke with David Cole, an attorney who is representing people and organizations that are challenging this law and Annemarie McAvoy, law professor at Fordham and former federal prosecutor about each of their opposite views.

3PM: General McChrystal gave some very controversial comments to a reporter from Rolling Stone magazine who followed him around for three weeks for an article. Gil spoke with Ann Compton about how the White House is responding to the comments and then Gil asked listeners if they believe the General should be fired.

He first speaks with Damon Dunn, Republican candidate for Secretary of State for California, who had a victory and will be running against Democrat Debra Bowen in the general election in November. Harvey Rosenfield, founder of Consumer Watchdog, chimed in on prop 17 and Carla Marinucci, senior political writer for SF Chronicle, chatted about the other props.

3PM: Tonight on Nightline Terry Moran has an exclusive interview with Governor Schwarzennegger and Terry spoke with Gil about what he is going to say. Vic Ratner, ABC correspondent, called in about about a wacky victory in South Carolina and Chuck DeVore, who was defeated last night, called in about his thoughts on the winners. One of the more controversial elements being discussed is open enrollment--the concept that a student at an under-performing school should be able to choose any other school in the state to transfer to. 3PM: The ACLU filed a lawsuit challenging California's mandatory DNA collection. The ACLU seeks to stop California's policy of mandating that DNA is collected from anyone arrested for a felony. The opposite side argues this could potentially destroy the progress with criminal cases as well as medical research. CPS removed the children from the home for a month while and investigation was conducted. There lives have been turned upside down for what most people have in their baby books. Have we gone too far as a society on what is ok and what is explicit? 2PM:Attorney General Jerry Brown started a online prescription drug monitoring system in hopes of cutting back of people who abuse prescription drugs. It allows doctors to view patients current, past, and most recent prescriptions orders so they can make decision based on their medical history. Michael Jackson's death has been linked with an overdose of prescription drugs and this seems to be occurring more frequently. Gil speaks with Attorney General Jerry Brown about this new plan and Bob Pack, a Danville activist who help fund and develop this program after a driver passed out from too many prescription drugs and killed his two children.

3PM: The former BART police officer accused of killing Oscar Grant on New Year's Eve is hoping to relocate his trial insisting he will not find a unbiased jury. Johannes Mehserle's attorney, Michael Rains spoke with Gil about why he thinks this is the only right thing to do for his client. John Burris, Oscar Grant's family attorney, weighed in on why this is not a the correct choice for the trial.

In a society where parents would walk two miles in the snow to get to school. are these parents being overly cautious with their own kids or have time really changed? Called the worst mother in the world for allowing her nine year old take the subway alone, Lenore Skenazy spoke with Gil about her view on this subject. She is a columnist, author and founder of Free-Range Kids.

3PM: Less than six percent of Americans ride public transportation and with concerns over global warming increasing, the government wants people to get out of their cars. They are discussing raising gas taxes in hopes of pushing people towards alternative ways to commute. Is this the solution? What about putting money for electric cars or more local busses instead of an expensive light rail system? Gil debates the issue.

2PM: Today is the 8th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center. Gil devotes his show to remembrance of that day. Gil spoke with two widows from September 11 who told their stories and what they are doing now. Monica Iken lost her husband but has since started a organization in honor of him entitled September's Mission. Bonnie McEneaney's husband Eamon was taken from her in the attacks and she wrote a book which will come out in June 2010. Gil also spoke with Former Governor of New Jersey Tom Kean.

3PM: Gil continued his conversation on 9/11 and spoke with Retired Army Major General Bill Nash about where the military compared to then. He also spoke with Battalion Chief Mark Bentovoja from the Sacramento Fire Department who went to assist at Ground Zero. Gil spoke with many listeners about people who have died but they have felt their spirits.

2PM: California's budget crisis may effect animal shelters across the state by having them reduce the mandatory holding period for strays from six days to three. It hardly allows people to locate their lost pet before they are euthanized. Gil spoke with Jack Aldridge, Director of Vet Services at the SFSPCA, who had all the details on this bill.

3PM: Legislators are back at work and at the top of their agenda is health care. Obama met with Democrats today to plan a health care strategy before his speech Wednesday night. ABC News Correspondent Vic Ratner spoke with Gil live from Capitol Hill and Johnathan Alter, Newsweek columnist, spoke health care with Gil as well.

2PM: The Bay Bridge has been shut down since Thursday evening and was scheduled to reopen by Tuesday morning, however they have run into some problems while working on it. Gil spoke with Abolhassan Astaneh, Professor Department of Civil Environment Engineering at UC Berkeley and he has studied the Bay bridge for twenty years, who informed us of the problems they are currently facing on the bridge and how to fix them.

3PM: Being Labor Day weekend, DUI checkpoints pop up all over the Bay Area in hopes of stopping drunk driving. In Moreno Valley, Ca a group of people are protesting a checkpoint claiming it is just a ruse to try and arrest Hispanics. Sergeant Dennis Guttierrez of the Moreno Valley Police Department spoke with Gil about how effective checkpoints can be and to public safety.

2PM: Why do people hate children? Roger Stephens, 61, was arrested earlier this week after slapping a woman's child in a Walmart in Georgia. He was annoyed that the child was crying and warned the mother if she did nothing about it he would. Considering we were all children at some point, why do some adults lack complete tolerance for kids? Gil spoke with Adrienne Frost, author of I Hate Other People's Kids.

3PM:Is Nancy Garrido a victim of Phillip Garrido or is she just as guilty? The wife of Jaycee Dugard's abductor, Nancy Garrido, is the one who pulled Jaycee in the car, she watched over Jaycee while Phillip was in jail, and in the eighteen years that they held her captive, Nancy never sought help from police. Her attorney is claiming she is a victim and not guilty. Is this even possible and will it be a good defense? Gil spoke with Attorney Gloria Allred and Ernie Allen, President of the National Center For Missing Children, who both argued she is just as guilty as Phillip and should serve severe time. Gil also spoke with Janice Gomes, Founder of National Community Empowerment Programs, who knew Phillip and used his printing services.

2PM: The former Miss California, Carrie Prejean, has filed a lawsuit against the beauty pageant organizers claiming she was wrongfully fired over her comments on gay marriage. The pageant officials claim she was fired for not attending scheduled events in her contract although they do not have proof of it. Does she have a legitimate lawsuit and was the question asked of her during the pageant a fair question?

3PM: Gil asks if President Obama should focus on the future or investigate the past administration for alleged CIA interrogation techniques. Democrats seem to side with a full on investigation while Republicans are stating it is a political ploy.

The 5 year-old- boy has been missing for eleven days and his foster father sent threatening text messages about Hasanni a few days before he went missing. Gil spoke with Cami Blackwell, a good friend of Hasanni's mother who said she would be stunned if anyone is the family had anything to do with disappearance.

3PM: Democrats' plan to overhaul California's prison system was narrowly approved by the Senate on Thursday however its fate is still unknown. Gil spoke with Assemblyman Jim Nielsen, who does not support the bill, about the pro's and con's that will effect the California if it passes.

2PM: Gil spoke with 60 Minutes Correspondent Steve Kroft about the passing of Don Hewitt, the creator of 60 Minutes.

The percentage of Americans ages 50-59 who report using drugs, nearly doubled between 2000 and 20007, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services. If these adults have children, what are they telling their children about drugs? Whether, you smoked pot in the 60's or are currently smoking now, how do you advise your kids on this issue?

3PM: Hasanni Cambell, a five year old boy from Fremont, has been missing for ten days and it already seems like an old news story. When children go missing there tends to be organized volunteers working non stop, make shift call in centers following up on leads, and constant media coverage but none of this is happening for Hasanni. What is the reason for the silence? Gil spoke with Tammerlin Drummond, Oakland Tribune Columnist, who recently wrote an article "Where is the Public Outcry Over 5- Year-Old's Disappearance?"

California's long budget negotiations have finally come to a close as the Legislature passed a package of bills today designed to close a $26 billion deficit in the 2009-2010 budget. The budget now goes to the desk of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for approval. In speaking about the budget debate, Gil spoke with State Controller John Chiang, Law professor and former Congressman Tom Campbell, and Chris McKenzie, Executive Director, League of California Cities about IOU’s and the state’s ongoing budget woes.
